Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques invites you to participate in his mission!
After years of training, Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut David Saint-Jacques flew to space on December 3. He is now living and working on the International Space Station as part of his first mission. He will be in orbit for over six months, making this mission the longest to date for a Canadian astronaut.
While he is in space, David will conduct a series of science experiments, operate Canadian robots and test new technologies.
A space mission is an incredible opportunity to spark young people’s interest in science and technology. The CSA invites you to join the mission by participating in the activities that will take place throughout David’s space adventure!
Challenges, contests, games, learning activities: lots of fun to do at home or in the classroom!
Living Space: In this brand new science research project, students will explore how environmental conditions influence mental and physical health while learning analytical thinking and coding skills.
Radi-N2: While David measures radiation levels aboard the International Space Station, classrooms across Canada can do the same on Earth. You can compare your data with other Canadian students, as well as to data that David will collect in space.
Little Inventors – Inventions for Space: Do you have ingenious ideas that could make life in space easier and more fun? If you participate in this challenge, your invention could be turned into a prototype by makers and artisans. Even more exciting, two inventions will be presented by David in space!
Astro Pi Challenge: Do you like computer programming? If so, this activity is for you! The European Astro Pi Challenge is an annual science and coding competition where students have the opportunity to develop code that could be run on the Space Station’s unique Raspberry Pi computers. Two different complexity levels make the Astro Pi Challenge accessible to students with or without coding experience. Wanted: Creative Writers: Bring together your love for writing and your passion for science! Young Canadians are invited to write a space-themed children’s story. Astronaut David Saint‑Jacques will choose one of his favourites and read it from the International Space Station during a live event with the author(s). The other winning stories will be published on the Canadian Space Agency website.
Where in the world is David? Bring 2D David across Canada and all over the world! Take a picture with our 2D astronaut and share it on social media.
Exploring Earth: This Web-based activity will feature satellite imagery and photos of Earth taken by David Saint-Jacques from space, accompanied by information on Earth’s features and how our planet works. Exclusive content will be added every week from January to June 2019.
Mission: Astronaut: Children are invited to discover the life of an astronaut aboard the International Space Station by participating in a new space-themed game. More information will be available in January 2019 on the CSA website.
